Maurinho On Coaching

This Jose Maurinho clip about coaching team and big player is one of my favorite video on coaching so far:

If you're not able to coach the big player, you're not able to coach anyone. It is very important for a coach to understand that you are not going to teach them how to play football. You are not going to teach Ronaldo how to take a free kick. You are not going to teach Ibra how to hold a ball on his chest. You are not going to teach Drogba how to attack the first post and score in the air. You are going to teach them how to play football in that team.

The last sentence has became increasingly relevant to me because I've been leading teams for some time. Some of the team member are way better at coding than I do. What i can do, is to coordinate the entire team on how to function as a team. What to do, what to prioritize, how to prioritize, decide on things, remove any blocker, enable the team to be more efficient, etc. How to function as a team and how to make the team works.

A person, no matter how good the person might be, only have 24/7.

A well functioning team can be scaled up and do wonder sustainably.
